Sharing to the fediverse
If you’ve turned on sharing to the fediverse, your Threads posts are automatically shared to other servers on the fediverse. Note that this will not apply to posts you’ve made before turning on sharing to the fediverse. We will delay sharing your posts to other servers for 5 minutes to allow for editing of your posts on Threads.
Threads that are shared to other servers will include fediverse in the top right when others tap to view them in Threads. Only text, photos and videos from your posts are shared on other servers. Posts with audio will only show text on other servers.
As you’re drafting a post on Threads, a message will appear at the top when the post won’t be shared to other servers. Your post won’t be shared to other servers if the post:
  • Includes a poll
  • Limits who can reply
  • Contains copyrighted audio that violates our audio licensing agreements. Note: Before posting a thread, Threads won’t be able to notify you if a post that doesn’t adhere to our audio licensing agreements won’t be shared to other fediverse servers.
Keep in mind
  • If someone replies to your thread and you delete your thread, their reply won’t be deleted.
  • If a private profile you don’t follow replies to your thread, you won’t be able to see their reply.
  • If you’ve already shared a post to the fediverse, you can’t change who can reply to it.
  • Posts that are shared to the fediverse may not be shared to all servers because of restrictions that we impose on other servers and restrictions they may impose on us as they relate to moderation policies and federation rules.
  • Anything you post on Threads is subject to Meta’s music usage guidelines.
  • Unlike Instagram, Threads currently doesn’t offer the branded content tool. If you are posting branded content on your Threads profile, make sure to indicate that the post is a paid promotion by adding text or hashtags to the post that specify it’s a paid partnership. See more about Meta’s branded content policy.
