Create collaborative posts on Instagram
You can use Instagram Collabs to co-author posts with other accounts. The creator of the original post can invite another account as a collaborator. If the account accepts the invite, their username will be added to the post and the post will be shared with their followers. It will also show on their profile. Accounts that accept a collaboration invite can see all likes and comments on the post.
Note that the invited account can remove themselves at any time, and the creator of the original post can remove the collaborator at any time.
Who you can invite to collaborate follows your account's privacy settings:
  • Public accounts: Public accounts can invite both public or private accounts to be collaborators.
  • Private accounts: Private accounts can invite both private or public accounts to be collaborators, but only if the invited account follows the private account. If a public account accepts a private account's invite, the post will be shared publicly through the public collaborator. Private accounts will see information explaining this in detail the first time they invite a collaborator. Once they acknowledge that they understand who can see collaborative posts, they can invite anyone that follows them to collaborate on future posts.

How are Collabs different from tagging or mentions?
  • If someone tags or mentions you in a photo or video, that photo or video won't be shared with your followers. If you collaborate on a post, that post will be shared with your followers.
  • If someone tags you in a photo or video, that photo or video will be automatically added to your profile unless you've chosen to manually approve posts you're tagged in. To be added to a post as a collaborator, you have to accept the collaboration invite.
  • If someone tags or mentions you, you will not be listed as an author of the photo or video. If you accept an invite to collaborate on a post, you will be listed as an author.
  • You can mention other accounts in your stories. You can't add collaborators to your stories.
Things to keep in mind about collaborative posts on Instagram:
  • You can add multiple collaborators to your post.
  • The person who created the post is the primary creator. If the original creator blocks the collaborator or the collaborator blocks the original creator, the collaboration will end. The collaborator can also leave the collaboration at any time. However, in all of these cases, the post will still be preserved on the original creator's profile.
  • If the original creator switches their account to private, only their followers can see the post.
  • Only the original creator can delete the post. If they do, it will be removed from the collaborator's profile as well.
  • The original creator maintains the post. If the original creator deactivates their account, the post no longer exists. It will be removed from the collaborator's profile as well. However, if the original creator reactivates their account, the post will be restored on both the original creator's and the collaborator's profiles.
  • If a post is found to go against our Community Guidelines, we'll remove it and may take action against the original creator and collaborators' accounts. Accounts that have gone against our guidelines may not have access to Instagram Collabs.
  • When a private account accepts an invite to collaborate, their username will appear on the post, but accounts that want to follow the private account will still need to send a request.
