Start a conversation with Meta AI
  1. Tap send or messenger in the top right of Feed.
  2. Tap in the top right.
  3. Tap Create an AI chat.
  4. Tap Meta AI.
  5. Enter a message, tap a message prompt or tap menu to explore more of what Meta AI can do. Note: Be mindful before including any personal information in your message (examples: name, address, email, or phone number).
  6. Tap Send.
After you’ve started a chat with Meta AI, you can revisit your conversation at any time from your inbox. Note: If you permanently delete a chat with Meta AI from your inbox and start a new conversation with Meta AI, your previous messages will no longer be available.
You can send the commands to Meta AI as messages in the chat. Some commands include:
  • /ai-options: Lists the available commands.
  • /imagine: Generates an image based on your text prompt. Once the image is sent, you and others in your chat can tap and hold on the image, then tap Reimagine to submit another prompt to change the image.
To animate an image that Meta AI generates, tap and hold the image, tap Reply and enter “animate” after the auto-populated mention of Meta AI. Meta AI will generate an animated version of the image.

Use Meta AI in a chat with others
  1. In an existing conversation, tap Message… at the bottom.
  2. Enter “@” and then tap Meta AI.
  3. Enter your question or request for Meta AI, then tap send next to your message. Note: Be mindful before including any personal information in your message (examples: name, address, email, or phone number).
  4. Your question and Meta AI’s response will be sent as messages in the chat.
Note that others in your chat will be able to see your message to Meta AI, as well as Meta AI’s response.
Meta AI can only read messages sent to “@Meta AI”. This means that your other messages in the chat, where Meta AI isn’t mentioned, are private and won’t be viewed by Meta AI.
To ask Meta AI another question or to reply to its response, you can tap and hold a message from Meta AI and then tap Reply. Any message for Meta AI, such as a reply to Meta AI or a follow-up question, must be directed to Meta AI for it to respond. (Example: “@Meta AI can you clarify that?”)
With the use of commands, you can ask Meta AI to provide more details on your conversations with AIs and perform certain tasks, such as deleting information about you from a conversation. To use a command, send the command as a message in the chat. Learn more about generative AI at Meta.
Some commands include:
  • /ai-options: Lists the available commands.

Access Meta AI in search
  1. Go to Explore or your inbox.
  2. Tap the search bar at the top. From here you can:
    • Tap a question or request for Meta AI that already appears below the search bar.
    • Enter your own question or request for Meta AI. Tap Send to the right of the search bar or tap a suggested prompt below Ask Meta AI. Tapping the enter key on your keyboard may also start a chat with Meta AI, depending on the nature of the question or request. Note: Meta AI will appear next to a suggested prompt for Meta AI.
  3. Meta AI will provide a response in your chat, where you can continue the conversation.
You can also tap Meta AI next to the search bar at the top of Explore or your inbox to see your chat with Meta AI.
Keep in mind
  • Meta AI’s responses may not be accurate or relevant, and should not be used to make important decisions. AIs have only been trained in English, which may result in lower quality responses for languages that currently aren’t supported.
  • Chats with AIs, including messages mentioning the Meta AI assistant and their responses, are not end-to-end encrypted.
  • Meta may use the messages to train the AI model, helping make the AIs better. Meta may share the messages you send to AI and general information, like your region, with our trusted partners so you can get better results. Visit our Meta AI Terms of Service to learn more.
