Instagram Performance bonus program rules
This bonus program is no longer active. On March 14, 2024, we stopped extending new and renewed Performance bonus deals in Japan. The article below explains the rules of the former bonus program.
The Instagram Performance bonus program, which is an invite-only, lets creators earn money on their photo post content. Eligible content includes a static photo post or a carousel where the first item is a static photo.
If you are invited to the Instagram Performance bonus program, you will receive a pop-up notification and an invite in your Professional Dashboard on the Instagram app.
To receive an Instagram Performance bonus payout, you must comply with the program rules, as referenced in the Instagram creator incentive terms, and the program rules applicable to bonuses on Instagram. You can see how much you’re earning by tapping Bonuses in the Professional Dashboard.
How to set up the Instagram Performance bonus
Once the Instagram Performance bonus becomes available to you, you’ll need to set up bonuses on Instagram before the eligibility expires.

How to earn bonuses in the Instagram Performance bonus program
While we are testing bonuses, you may be able to earn bonuses:
- Based on the performance of your photo post,measured by bonus post views. Bonus post views are the number of eligible views your post receives that count toward the bonus. The amount you earn per bonus post view may not always stay constant. For example, you may earn more per bonus post views as you’re getting started, and less over time. Not all bonus post views are counted toward a bonus payout.
- Based on the number of photo posts you create to earn a bonus amount.
- Based on creation of a themed photo post in response to a prompt to create a post for an upcoming holiday or moment.
In some cases, you must earn a minimum amount to receive a bonus payout. If you don’t reach the minimum amount, you will not receive any bonus payout but you may be invited to participate in another bonus opportunity in the future.
Note: Instagram determines the amount you’ve earned at the end of the bonus period. The earnings from that bonus won’t be paid until the following month. Learn more about Instagram payouts.
What content is not eligible for Performance bonuses?
Not all photo posts may be eligible for the Performance Bonus, including the following reasons:
- Your post is claimed by another rights holder.
- Your post is branded content, which is currently ineligible for the Performance bonus.
- Your post is a collab, which is currently ineligible for the Performance bonus.
- Your post is watermarked with a third-party platform’s mark, name or logo. Only posts that you have created can earn bonuses.
- Engagement on your post appears inauthentic, for example, fraudulent views or artificially boosted views.
- Your post is permanently deleted. You may not get credit for the bonus post views that post received if you delete your post.
- Your post does not adhere to Community Guidelines or Content Monetization Policies.
If your content is marked as ineligible and you believe this was a mistake, you may appeal for a review. If your appeal is successful, the bonus post views you receive on your post that received the win decision will count toward your progress in the bonus program. If the decision comes after the bonus program deal expires, we will not count those bonus post views.
