Why Instagram reels may be recommended on Facebook
This feature isn’t currently available to everyone.
If someone posts a reel on Instagram and their account is public, they can choose to have their reel shown as recommended content on Facebook. Instagram reels on Facebook can be recommended to anyone based on what may be relevant to them.
What can people viewing reels recommended on Facebook see
Your Instagram profile info may appear on Facebook when you like, leave a comment or interact with a comment on an Instagram reel that’s also recommended on Facebook, even if you have a Facebook account connected to your Instagram account. If you delete a comment you've written on an Instagram reel that was shared to Facebook, it'll be removed from both apps.
People viewing your recommended Instagram reels on Facebook can also see:
  • Your Instagram username and profile info. If you have a Facebook account, your Facebook info won’t be shown, even if your Instagram account is connected to a Facebook account.
  • Your reel’s total play count and like count. These may include plays and likes from both Instagram and Facebook.
  • Your reel’s total reaction count from Facebook. Reactions may include like, love, wow, sad, angry, haha and more.
  • Your reel’s total comment count and comments from Instagram users.
On Instagram, people can see your reel's total play, like, and comment counts, as well as the total reactions you may have received to your reel on Facebook.
Note that reels you set to recommend on Facebook can be seen by anyone on Facebook. This may include people who you aren't friends with on Facebook or whose accounts you blocked on Facebook or Instagram. You can change your recommended on Facebook setting at any time. Keep in mind
  • If someone plays or likes your reel from an Instagram and a Facebook account, it will count as two separate plays or likes, even if they've added their accounts to an Accounts Center.
  • When you view your reel from Instagram, you won't see the Facebook profile names of people who liked your reel on Facebook.
  • Instagram accounts can see your reel’s play count, like count and which Instagram users liked your reel, comments and comment count.
  • If you allow others to see your Instagram reel on Facebook, remixes of that reel on Instagram can also be shared to Facebook or recommended to others on Facebook.
  • If you want to stop a reel you’ve already shared from being recommended on Facebook, you must delete your Instagram reel or set your account to private. Setting your account back to public will automatically make Instagram reels previously recommended on Facebook visible on Facebook again.
  • Anyone on Facebook can reuse your original audio and, if you allow it, remix your Reel.
  • Reels that reuse your original audio or remix your reel can also be recommended on Facebook.
  • Reels containing branded content tags won’t be recommended on Facebook. If you add branded content tags to a reel that’s been recommended on Facebook, it will no longer be visible on Facebook.
  • Reels with product tags can be recommended on Facebook, but product tags won’t be visible on Facebook.
How do I manage my Instagram reels settings?
To allow others to view your Instagram reels on Facebook:
  1. Tap profile or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
  2. Tap more options in the top right.
  3. Below How others can interact with you, tap Sharing and remixes.
  4. Next to Recommend on Facebook, tap switch off to turn it on or switch on to turn it off.
To change this setting for a specific reel or only for reels you share in the future, tap Recommend on Facebook, then tap switch off to turn it on or switch off to turn it off before sharing a reel. If you don’t see Recommend on Facebook, it may be in your advanced settings. Changes you make here won’t affect reels you’ve already shared.
