Profile name eligibility for Meta Verified profiles on Instagram
This feature may not be available in your location yet.
Once you’ve successfully completed the verification process for your profile, you can update your profile name once every 3 days. When you change your profile name after you’ve been verified, you’ll need to go through the verification process again.
You can use the legal name on your government-issued ID or your existing profile name if it meets our naming standards.

Note: The option to use an existing profile name on verified profiles is slowly rolling out and isn’t available to everyone yet.

Profile name eligibility

To use your legal name or your existing profile name, your profile needs:

Profile name formats

The following formats are accepted for profile names that don't match your legal name on your government-issued ID:
  • Abbreviations (Example: Sid for Siddharth)
  • Spelling variations (Example: Maria vs Marya)
  • First initials (Example: LM for Lisa Marie)
  • Compound names (Example: Mary vs Mary-Lou)

The following formats are not accepted for profile names:
  • Symbols, numbers, unusual capitalization, repeating characters, or punctuation
  • Characters from multiple languages

  • Offensive or suggestive words of any kind

Having trouble?

If you have trouble updating your profile name, we recommend that you:
  • Make sure your profile name follows the naming standards in this article.
  • Make sure you haven’t changed your profile name in the last 3 days.

If you already have an existing verified badge based on prior requirements, you can still sign up for Meta Verified.
