Copyright Report Form

Use this form to report content which you believe violates or infringes your copyright.

Under the laws of most countries, copyright is the legal right that protects original works of authorship, such as books, music, film and art. In most countries, copyright does not protect facts, ideas, systems or methods of operation. Some of these may be protected by other rights. Generally, copyright does not protect facts and ideas, but it may protect the original words or images that express that idea.

However, copyright does not protect all expressions. As explained by the U.S. Copyright Office, "copyright does not protect names, titles, slogans, or short phrases. In some cases, these things may be protected as trademarks."

Content You Want to Report
Please provide information about the content on Instagram you want to report.
Typically, Instagram accounts contain many individual photos, videos, captions and comments. It’s uncommon for the copyrights in all these various objects to belong to one rights owner or infringe only one party’s copyrights. If you believe this account is infringing in its entirety, you may continue with this report.
Please note that the use of a name does not necessarily violate copyright. In most countries, copyright does not protect names, titles, slogans or short phrases, though some of these may be protected by other rights (such as trademark rights).
For more information on the scope of copyright protection, please see the following FAQs on the World Intellectual Property Organization’s website.
You can look up the website for a specific country’s copyright office via their directory.
If you have not already done so, you may wish to contact the user who posted the content to resolve the issue.
You can get a link to a photo or video by going to the post in the app and tapping "..." beneath it. From the menu that appears, select Copy Share URL.
Alternatively, you can get a link to the post by viewing it on the web:
  1. Every Instagram account has a username, which you can find when visiting that account on the web or within the mobile app
  2. Once you know the username of the account in which the content is located, open a web browser and go to http://instagram.com/username
    • For example, if the username is "johnappleseed" go to http://instagram.com/johnappleseed
  3. Click on the photo(s) or video(s) you wish to report
  4. For each photo or video, copy the URL (located at the top of the browser) and paste it into your report
Please note, appearing in content does not necessarily mean you own the copyright to that content. If you think a photo or video on Facebook might violate your image privacy rights, you can learn more by visiting the Help Center.
Please note, the use of a name does not necessarily violate copyright. In most countries, copyright does not protect names, titles, slogans or short phrases.
