Create a new ad with product tags
Ads with product tags allow people to get more information about the tagged product on Instagram and make it easier to start shopping. Shoppers can make purchases from your business’s website or purchase directly in-app (for businesses that use checkout on Instagram).
Advertisers can run existing shoppable posts as ads with product tags or create new ads with product tags in Ads Manager.
How to create a new ad with product tags
To create an ad with product tags in Ads Manager:
  1. Go to Meta Ads Manager.
  2. Select +Create.
  3. Choose a supported objective: Awareness, Traffic, Engagement, Leads or Sales. Note: Some objectives require specific choices:
    • Awareness: Choose Reach, Impressions or Ad Recall Lift as your optimization goal.
    • Engagement: Choose On your ad as your conversion location and select Post engagement as your engagement type.
    • Leads: Choose Website as your conversion location.
  4. Select your audience.
  5. Select Manual placements and select Instagram Feed, Instagram Explore and/or Instagram Stories as the placement.
  6. At the ad level, upload a creative that you’d like to tag your products in.
    • You can run a single image, carousel, or video post as your ad with product tags. Note: You must add a product tag to every carousel image to run it as an ad with product tags.
  7. Select Edit Media, then select Product Tags under Creative Tools.
    • To manually tag your products, select the Catalog drop-down menu and search within Tagged Products to select products from that catalog. Drag and drop the product tags to the correct location on the ad preview to the right. Note: You can add up to 5 product tags on each asset.
    • If your ad is eligible for automatic product tags, it will be toggled on by default. This will generate product tags shown in your ads on Instagram. You can drag and drop up to 5 product tags on each asset to a preferred location on the ad preview to the right. You can change this setting at any time in Creative Tools. Note: This can only be toggled on for Instagram Feed and Explore placements, including Automatic placements.
  8. Click Save.
  9. Finish the details for your ad and select Publish.
You’ve now set up a new ad with product tags. You can track the performance of your Instagram ad and view metrics on Meta Ads Manager.
