Manage restrictions for branded content and affiliate
Creators can set minimum age and location restrictions for Feed posts, videos, stories and reels.
Instagram’s affiliate program ended in August 2022. You’ll no longer be able to tag commission-eligible products in your content and existing content will no longer earn commission.
You can set minimum age restrictions for people to see your branded content and affiliate posts. Consider adding a minimum age for posts about certain categories of products.
You can also block an entire country from seeing your branded content and affiliate posts.

Restricted goods

Products promoted on Facebook and Instagram must comply with our policies for restricted and prohibited goods. When you promote certain products like alcohol or dating apps, your posts must meet policy requirements to be visible to the appropriate age group.
Some restricted goods that require minimum age restrictions to comply with our policies include:
  • Alcohol
  • Dating
  • Real-money gambling
  • State lotteries
  • Online pharmacies
  • Prescriptions
  • Drug and alcohol addiction treatment
  • Cosmetic procedures and weight loss products and services
  • Financial and insurance products
While creating a branded content or affiliate post, you can add a minimum age for people everywhere or in specific countries.
You won’t be able to add a minimum age for a post after it’s been created. If you’d like to add or change the minimum age after you’ve created it, delete the post and create a new one.

Set a minimum age and location for affiliate or branded content

If you have access to affiliate or the paid partnership label, you can set minimum age and location restrictions.
You can do this when creating affiliate content or branded content, and you can set restrictions for feed posts, stories, videos and Reels.
When creating feed posts, videos or Reels, you can do this under Advanced settings.
When creating a story, you can click the link icon at the top of the screen to access Audience restrictions settings.

Set a default minimum age

You can choose to add a default minimum age that will apply to people everywhere. For example, if you set the default minimum age to 21, it blocks everyone under 21 from seeing the post.

Set a minimum age for specific countries

You can also add a minimum age for people in specific countries. For example, you can add a minimum age of 18 for people in Turkey, and set a default minimum age of 25 for people everywhere else. The default minimum age applies to any country where you haven’t set up a specific minimum age.
You can also set a minimum age for all of your posts in your creator or business settings.

Set location restrictions

For specific posts, you can set location restrictions for any country, for all age groups. For example, you can add a minimum age of 18 for people in Turkey, and add France to your list of countries in Location Restrictions under Settings. This will block anyone from any age group from viewing your post in France, but those who are at least 18 years old in Turkey can see the post.
