Run an existing shoppable post as an ad with product tags
Ads with product tags allow people to get more information about the tagged product on Instagram and make it easier to start shopping. Shoppers can make purchases from your business’s website or purchase directly in-app (for businesses that use checkout on Instagram).
Advertisers can run existing shoppable posts as ads with product tags in Ads Manager and from Instagram. When you run an existing shoppable post as an ad, the ad creative will feature the product tags from the organic post.
Before you begin
  • You must be approved and set up for Instagram Shops before you can tag products in your posts.
  • Choose an existing shopping post to run as your ad creative or create an organic shopping post in the Instagram app by tagging products from your catalog.
Run an existing post as an ad with product tags in Ads Manager
To run an existing post as an ad with product tags in Ads Manager:
  1. Go to Meta Ads Manager.
  2. Select +Create.
  3. Choose a supported objective: Awareness, Traffic, Engagement, Leads or Sales. Note: Some objectives require specific choices:
    • Awareness: Select reach as your optimization goal.
    • Engagement: Select Website or App as your conversion location. You can also choose On your ad as your conversion location and select Post engagement as your engagement type.
    • Leads: Select Website or App as your conversion location.
  4. Select an audience.
  5. Select Manual placements and select Instagram Feed, Instagram Explore and/or Instagram Stories as the placement.
  6. At the ad level, select Use existing post.
  7. Choose the shoppable post you’d like to run as an ad.
    • You can run a single image, carousel, or video shoppable post as your ad with product tags. Note: To be eligible for boosting, every carousel image must have a product tag on it.
  8. Finish the details for your ad and select Publish.
You’ve now set up an ad with product tags. You can track the performance of your Instagram ad and view metrics on Meta Ads Manager.
Run an existing post as an ad with product tags from Instagram using the promote button
To run an existing post as an ad with product tags from the Instagram app:
  1. Go to your profile.
  2. Tap the existing shoppable post that you'd like to promote.
    • You can run a single image, carousel or video shoppable post as your ad with product tags. Note: To be eligible for boosting, every carousel image must have a product tag on it.
  3. Below the post's image, tap Promote.
  4. Fill in the details of your promotion and tap Next once you've completed those details.
    • Under Goal, tap Edit to add a URL and select an action button for your promotion; then tap Done.
    • Under Audience, select an audience (who you want to reach).
    • Under Budget and duration, select a budget (how much you want to spend daily) and duration (how long you want your promotion to run).
  5. Tap Preview promotion under Review to preview how your promotion with product tags will show in Instagram Feed and Explore.
  6. To complete your promotion, tap Create promotion.
Once you've tapped Create promotion, your ad is submitted for review to make sure it meets our ad policies. You'll receive a notification in your activity feed after you submit a promotion for review, when it's getting reviewed, if it's approved or disapproved and when the campaign ends.
Your promotion will begin running after it's been reviewed and approved. You can track the performance of your promotion with View insights.
