What happens when you connect Instagram to your device's contact list
When you connect your Instagram account to your device’s contact list:
- Instagram will use your contacts to help you connect with people you know, recommend things you care about and offer you a better service. You’ll receive these recommendations from Instagram as notifications on your phone or in your feed.
- Your contact list is periodically synced and securely stored on our servers, but you can delete your synced contacts at any time from a computer. Note: It may take up to 90 days to complete the deletion process after it begins. During the deletion process, Instagram may still make recommendations based on your contacts.
- Your device’s contacts will only be visible to you.
Keep in mind that when you confirm your phone number or email on Instagram, your account may be recommended to users who have your contact information in their device’s contact list. You may also be recommended people and things that are relevant to you so we can offer you a better service.
If you’d like to stop receiving notifications from Instagram about recommended accounts, you can turn these notifications off.
Turn notifications about friends to follow on Instagram on or off
- Tap
or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
- Tap
in the top right.
- Tap Notifications, then tap Following and Followers.
- Tap
next to Off or On under Account Suggestions to adjust your notification setting.
