Mention someone in your Instagram story
You can mention up to 20 people in each photo or video you share to your Instagram story.
Mention someone in your story
- After you select a photo or video to share, tap
.
- Type @ followed immediately by their username, then select the person you'd like to mention.
- Note that you can tap
next to Let people you mention add this to their story and reshare it with their audiences? to turn off story re-shares for people you mention. Your setting preferences will be saved for future stories you share.

- Tap Done.
- When you’re ready to share, tap Your story in the bottom left.
When you mention someone in your story, their username will appear in your story with an underline. Anyone who can see your story can tap it to go to their profile.
You can also mention someone in an existing story by tapping 
in the bottom right of your story, then tapping Add Mentions.

- People you mention will get a notification telling them that you've mentioned them in your story. They'll also get a direct message from you that includes a preview of your story. This preview disappears from the message thread after 24 hours.
- People you’ve mentioned can re-share the story to their own story, unless you’ve adjusted your re-share settings to allow or stop allowing people you mention from sharing it.
- If you allow others to re-share your story, their followers will also be able to view your story, even if your account is set to private.
- When you mention someone in an existing story, their username will not appear in your story, but they will receive a notification.
- If you're not able to mention someone, they may have changed who can mention them from their privacy settings.
