Manage read receipts for your chats on Instagram
Read receipts allow others in a chat on Instagram to see when you’ve viewed their message. You can manage read receipts for certain chats or for all chats.
Manage read receipts in a chat
- Tap
or
in the top right of Feed.
- Tap a conversation in your chats list, then tap the chat name at the top.
- Tap Privacy & safety.
- Tap
next to Read receipts to turn this setting off and stop allowing others in the chat to view when you’ve read someone’s message. You can turn read receipts back on by tapping
next to Read receipts.
Manage read receipts for all chats
- Tap
or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
- Tap
in the top right.
- Below How others can interact with you, tap Messages and story replies.
- Tap
Keep in mind
- If you change your read receipts for an individual chat, this change won’t be impacted by any changes you make to read receipts from your account settings. Example: If you’ve turned on read receipts for an individual chat and then visit Settings and activity to turn off read receipts for all chats, the individual chat will still have your read receipts set to on.
- Read receipts aren’t available for end-to-end encrypted chats that you or someone else has started.
