Add shopping tags to Instagram posts
Since June 5, 2023, any new shops you create use Checkout with Facebook and Instagram. If you have shops created before June 5, you have until April 24, 2024 to enable Checkout with Facebook or Instagram. Learn more.
Businesses, partners and qualified public Instagram accounts can add shopping tags to Instagram posts from brands with shops on Instagram. See the list of eligible countries for shopping on Instagram.
You can tag up to 20 products and shops in a photo feed post. A carousel post, or a single post with up to 10 photos and videos, can have a total of 20 tags across all media items in the carousel. If you already use a third-party platform to manage inventory for your business and shop, you can also tag products directly from your third-party platform.
Before you begin
  • To tag products, approved businesses must have their shop on Instagram set up.
  • If you’re 13 years old or older with a qualified and public Instagram account, you’re able to tag products:
    • If your account is active over the past 30 days and has no more than 2 policy violations.
    • Or, if a business has approved your access to tag their products as a branded content partner. Go to Account settings to confirm that you’re added as a branded content partner with permission to tag products.
Note: If you have a shop, products tagged in your posts will automatically be added to your shop.
How to add shopping tags to your Instagram posts
To tag products in your posts:
  1. Tap create new.
  2. Select a photo or video and add a caption, effects and filters. Tap (Android) or Next (iOS).
  3. Tap Tag products. Tap the products in the photo or video that you want to tag.
  4. Search for the products you want to tag, then select them as they appear in the search box.
  5. Tap (Android) or Done (iOS).
  6. Tap (Android) or Share (iOS).
    Note: When you share a post with product tags on Instagram, you can share the same post to Facebook with product tags. You can do this by toggling on Facebook before posting.
Your tagged products are displayed on the post.
If you're an eligible seller with an active promotional offer tied to the tagged product, the promotion is automatically tagged. The post's call-to-action bar changes to View offer or View sale depending on the promotion type that you select in Commerce Manager. You can remove the promotion from the post by tapping the call-to-action bar and then tapping X to remove.
All products are reviewed and approved per Meta’s Commerce Policies.
