Troubleshoot problems with your call on Instagram
If something isn't working with your camera, microphone or speakers for audio and video calling on Instagram, here are some things you can try.
Check your device’s hardware settings
  • Make sure that your camera and microphone are turned on. Close any open programs that may already be using your camera or microphone.
  • If you’re using any external camera, microphone or speakers, make sure that they’re selected for use from your device.
  • Make sure that your microphone isn't on mute.
  • Make sure that the app has permission to access your camera, microphone or speakers. You can check this on your computer or browser settings. Learn how to check your phone settings from Apple Support or from the Google Play Store Support page.
Restart your phone or tablet
  • Restart your phone or tablet.
Check your internet connection
  • If your internet connection is slow, try re-connecting to your Wi-Fi network or connecting to a different network.
Uninstall and reinstall the app
If restarting your device and checking your connection doesn't help, try deleting and reinstalling Instagram:
  1. From the Home screen, tap and hold the Instagram app icon until it shakes.
  2. Tap on the app to delete it. Your photos and profile info will be saved by Instagram.
  3. Go to the App Store, reinstall Instagram and then log in with your username and password.
Ask your friend to check their device settings and internet connection
  • If you can't hear or see the person you're video calling with, ask them to try the steps listed above.
