What admins of Instagram group chats can do
If you create a group chat on Instagram, you’re automatically the admin of the group chat. You can become an admin of a group you didn't create if a current admin of the group promotes you to admin.
If you're an admin of a group chat, you can:
  • Approve who joins your group.
  • Promote other members to admins.
  • Demote other admins to members.
  • Add members to your group.
  • Remove members from your group.
  • Create an invite link for people to join your group.
Turn on admin approval
  1. From the group chat, tap the group name at the top.
  2. Tap switch off next to Approval Required to Join.
Any pending requests will be shown here for you to approve or decline.
Add someone as an admin
  1. From the group chat, tap the group name at the top.
  2. Tap add peoplePeople, then tap ig-three-dots next to the account you want to make an admin.
  3. Tap Make Admin.
Remove someone as an admin
  1. From the group chat, tap the group name at the top.
  2. Tap add peoplePeople, then tap ig-three-dots next to the account you want to remove as an admin.
  3. Tap Remove as Admin.
Add someone to a group chat
  1. From the group chat, tap the group name at the top.
  2. Tap addAdd at the top.
  3. Search for and select the people you'd like to add to the conversation, then tap Next.
  4. Tap Add.
Remove someone from a group chat
  1. From the group chat, tap the group name at the top.
  2. Tap add peoplePeople, then tap ig-three-dots next to the account you want to remove.
  3. Tap Remove From Group.
