Create a Close Friends list on Instagram
You can create a Close Friends list on Instagram so that when you share things like a post, note, reel, or story, you can choose for only people on that list to see it.
Create a Close Friends list
To add or remove people from your Close Friends list:
- Tap
or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
- Tap
in the top right.
- Below How you use Instagram, tap Close Friends.
- Tap
next to the people you want to add to your Close Friends list. You can also tap Search to search for a friend.
- To remove someone on your list, tap
next to their name.
- Tap Done at the bottom to save your changes.
People won't be notified when you add or remove them from your list. You can update your list at any time.
Keep in mind
- When someone is added to your Close Friend list, they’ll see a
when viewing your notes, reels or stories that lets them know they’re part of your list. They may also see a green ring around your profile photo.
- If someone on your list likes, comments on or shares your reel, others on your close friends will be able to see their username and how they interact with your reel.
- No one can request to be added to your Close Friends list.
