Mute or unmute someone on Instagram
If you don't want to see someone's posts in your feed, see their stories at the top of your feed or see incoming messages they send you, there are multiple ways you can mute someone on Instagram.
Instagram won't let them know you muted them. Keep in mind that muting someone is different from unfollowing them.
Mute or unmute messages
To mute or unmute messages from someone:- Tap
or
in the top right of Feed.
- Tap the chat with the person you want to mute/unmute.
- Tap the person's name at the top of your chat, then tap
Mute at the top.
- Tap
or
next to Mute messages or Mute calls to mute/unmute someone.
Mute or unmute posts and stories through their profile
To mute or unmute someone's posts and stories from their profile:- Tap their username from their Feed or story post, or tap
and search their username to go to their profile.
- Tap Following below their profile info.
- Tap Mute.
- Tap
Mute or unmute an account through feed
To mute or unmute someone's posts or stories through feed:- Tap
next to their post.
- Tap Hide.
- Tap Mute [username], then tap Mute Posts or Mute Posts and Story.
Keep in mind that muting someone’s messages, posts or stories will not apply to notes they share. You will still see notes they share on Instagram. Learn how to also mute someone’s notes.
