About badges
This feature is only available for business and creator accounts on Instagram.
Added Instagram badges let you earn money when you go live. Badges will appear next to a person’s Instagram username throughout the live video. Supporters who have purchased badges in Live will stand out in the comments and unlock additional features, including placement on a creator's list of badge holders and access to a special heart during the live video.
Instagram's revenue share is currently at 0%. Google and Apple collect 30% in fees for in-app purchases.
Note: You can view a list of supporters who purchased badges during each live video for up to 90 days after your video ends.
Get started
In order to get paid from badge purchases, you’ll need to set up a payout account. You’ll be asked to provide information such as your name, business information and a payout method.
Once you’ve set up your payout account, you’ll be able to track your status and estimated earnings in the Badges tab in Settings.
To use badges, you must:
- Meet our Partner Monetization Policies, and remain compliant with Instagram Community Standards and Content Monetization Policies.
Additionally, accounts that primarily post content focused on children are not eligible to receive or earn from Badges.
Multiple badges
Your supporters can also buy multiple badges in a single live video. Multiple badges will have a + icon next to a special heart, indicating the total number of badges purchased. For example, if someone buys 3 badges, you’ll see the special heart icon with a +2 next to it. The more badges your supporters purchase, the larger your overall payout will be.
Note: The payments you receive from your supporters who purchase multiple badges in a single live video will be capped at $250 per supporter.
Recognize your supporters
Once your supporters purchase a badge, they’ll receive a celebratory animation screen. If your supporters purchase 3 or more badges, their profile photo will glow bright purple. You’ll be notified with the amount of badges your supporters purchase and you can identify your top supporters by seeing the number next to their username.
When your supporters purchase one or more badges, the badges will appear next to their username. You can thank supporters of a specific live video by using a thank you sticker in a story.
You can:
- Use the sticker from the tray to thank supporters from the most recent Live.
- Access a list of supporters to thank from a specific Live in Settings.
Your supporters will be notified so they can view the story.
When you go live, you can pin comments from supporters who purchase badges. Their badges will be next to their name and their comment will appear to everyone during the live video.
You will also see questions submitted from your supporters during a live video, which will appear in a Q&A box. The questions submitted from your supporters who purchase the most badges will move to the top of the queue, which your supporters won’t be able to see.
Review payouts information
You can review earnings and invoices in the professional dashboard.
