Use Ad tools to boost an Instagram post
If you're based in or intend to target audiences in the US and want to create an ad campaign that relates to credit, employment, housing, social issues or political ads, you must choose the category that best describes your ads from the Special Ad Category dropdown menu.
Starting February 2024, an Apple service charge of 30% of your total payment amount, before any applicable taxes, may apply when you boost in the Instagram iOS app. This fee is retained by Apple, not Instagram or Meta. Learn more about avoiding Apple service charges when boosting on Instagram.
You can boost a post you create on Instagram to turn it into an ad and reach more people. When you create an ad using Ad tools on Instagram, you can choose whether your advertising goal is more profile visits, website visits or messages. Instagram posts that include product tags can also be boosted.
Before you begin
Note: When you boost a post on the Facebook or Instagram iOS apps, you’ll need to pay with prepaid funds. Prepaid funds added through the iOS apps will be charged through Apple, which retains a service fee on your total ad payment before applicable taxes. Applicable taxes and Apple service fees are not kept by Meta.
Create ads directly from Instagram
To create an ad from Ad tools on Instagram:
  1. Go to your profile.
  2. Tap Professional dashboard.
  3. Tap Ad tools.
  4. Tap Choose a post.
  5. Choose a post or story that you'd like to boost.
  6. Tap Next (iOS) or (Android) at the upper-right corner.
  7. If you didn’t link to a Facebook Page when you set up your Instagram professional account, you will be prompted to connect a Page. You can choose an existing Page or tap Skip.
  8. If you tap Skip, you won’t see this step when you boost future posts. You can still connect a Facebook Page to your profile at any time.
  9. Fill in the details of your ad by setting things like Goal (what results you'd like from this ad), Audience (who you want to reach), Budget (how much you want to spend daily) and Duration (how long you want your ad to run). Tap Next (iOS) or (Android) once you've completed these details.
  10. To complete your ad, tap Boost post under Review.
Your ad will be submitted for review to make sure it meets our ad policies. Your ad will begin running after it's been reviewed and approved.
You'll receive a notification in your Activity Feed after you submit an ad for review, when it's getting reviewed, if it's approved or disapproved and when the campaign ends.
After submitting your ad, you can use the Ad Tools button to view insights.
