A business chat is a chat with a business account on Instagram. You'll see gray text in the conversation that tells you when you're in a business chat. You can choose which business chat message requests you accept in the Message Requests folder.

If your Instagram account is private, business accounts that don't follow you can only see your publicly available information. In business chats, business accounts get suggested responses, including replies and actions to take, based on automatic processing of messages.

At any time, you can control your privacy by making certain information private or public from your privacy settings on Instagram.
