Restore Instagram end-to-end encrypted chats with a Google account
This option only works for Android mobile devices. End-to-end encryption is only available in some areas.
You can automatically restore your end-to-end encrypted messages on Android mobile devices connected to your Google account without entering your PIN.
Note: This option isn’t protected with end-to-end encryption. Learn more about restoring end-to-end encrypted messages for Android devices.
Google does not store your messages. Google will store an encryption key that allows you to access your end-to-end encrypted messages on devices logged in to your Google account.
Automatically restore your messages with a Google account
- Log in to the same Google account you used to enable access to your chat history on other devices.
- Turn on Google Drive from your device settings.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Return to Instagram.
Keep in mind this only works for Android devices, and not if you’re trying to restore your chats on a computer or iOS device.
