How do I filter out and hide comments I don't want to appear on my posts on Instagram?
Comments that don’t go against our Community Guidelines, but may be inappropriate, offensive, bullying or spam are automatically filtered out or may be hidden from content you share on Instagram. These comments are filtered or hidden by default, but you can always change this setting and unhide some comments.
Keep in mind that you and others on Instagram won’t be able to see offensive comments that are filtered automatically and you can’t unhide them unless you turn off “Hide Offensive Comments."
To turn off hidden comments:
Tap
or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
Tap
in the top right, then tap
Settings.
- Tap Privacy, then tap Comments.
- Tap
next to Hide Offensive Comments to turn it off.
Some comments (example: spam) may be hidden, but can be unhidden from your post.
To unhide specific comments on your post:
- Tap View all comments below your post.
- Scroll to the end of your comments and tap View Hidden Comments.
- Tap Unhide below any comment you want to view
Keep in mind, you won’t see View Hidden Comments if no comments are hidden.
You can also turn on a keyword filter to hide comments that contain specific words, phrases, numbers or emojis that you'd like to avoid. These filters will be active until you remove them.
To filter comments by keywords:

or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.

Keep in mind that default and custom keyword filtering aren't currently available in all languages:
- Default Keywords: The default list of keywords is only available in certain languages.
- Custom Keywords: Currently, custom keyword filtering doesn't support languages without spaces (example: Chinese, Japanese, Thai).
When you turn on comment filtering, it’s applied to both new and existing comments on your posts. When you turn off comment filtering, filtered comments on your posts will be restored.
