Reuse of media on Instagram
If you have a public account, other Instagram users may be able to create new reels, posts or stories that reuse part or all of your published photos, videos or reels in features like remix, sequence, templates and stickers.
Your privacy settings determine default remix and reuse settings
The default reuse settings of your reels, feed videos and photos depends on your account’s privacy settings.
  • If your account is set to private: No one can reuse any part of your reels, feed videos, and photos.
  • If your account is public: Anyone on Instagram can reuse all or part of your reels, feed videos, and photos shared after reuse became available. Reels, feed videos, and photos can be reused in features like remix, sequence, templates and stickers. Note: These features are not available everywhere at this time.
  • If you’re under 18 with a public account: Only people you follow can reuse your media if your settings allow for reuse.
  • If you switch from public to private account: All reels, posts or stories using your content will be deleted if you set your account to private for longer than 24 hours.
You can control who reuses or remixes your media
At any time, you can turn off or allow reuse for reels, feed videos, and photos across your entire account. You can also turn off reuse of individual reels, videos and photos from each post. If you turn off reuse, then reels, posts or stories using all or part of your reels, feed videos, and photos created before you changed your settings will stay on Instagram unless you delete your original content.
Note: You can’t turn off reuse of your original audio, text, or comments.
When your content is reused
  • Notification: You'll receive a notification if a public account reuses your content.
  • Downloading: People who reuse your content can download your content as part of their reel, post or story. You can’t download content others have created with your reel, feed video, or photo.
When you delete content
  • If you delete content: Deleting your reel or photo will also delete all reels, posts and stories using all or part of your content.
  • When you restore something you deleted: If you restore a video or photo you’ve deleted within 30 days, all the reels, posts or stories using all or part of your video or photo will also be restored.
Two ways to adjust reuse settings
You can decide if people can reuse your media for each individual post or for all posts made by your account.
  • Change settings at your account level: You can change your settings for all media you post at the account level. Note that changes made at the account level only apply to future media.
  • Change the settings for individual posts: You can adjust your reuse settings for each individual piece of content you post. Any adjustments you make to settings for individual content will override your account settings for that content.
Manage who can reuse your media on Instagram
If you turn off reuse, then reels, posts or stories using all or part of your reels, feed videos, and photos created before you changed your settings will stay on Instagram unless you delete your original content.
Change your settings at the account level
If you change your settings at the account level, you can still adjust your reuse settings for any individual post at any time.
Any change you make to your reuse and remix settings at the account level will impact who can reuse your media after you make the change. These settings do not impact who can use your original audio or text.
On the Instagram app for Android or iPhone:
  1. Tap profile or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
  2. Tap more options in the top right.
  3. Below How others can interact with you, tap Sharing and remixes.
  4. Below What people can remix and reuse, tap switch off or switch on next to Allow reuse of reels or Allow reuse of feed videos or Allow reuse of posts to turn remixing on or off.
Instagram users under 18 with public accounts have more options for controlling reuse
Instagram users under 18 with public accounts may further restrict who can reuse their content by audience: everyone, people you follow or no one. The default setting is people you follow, and this can be changed in account settings.
Control reuse for individual photos, videos or reels
On the Instagram app for Android or iPhone:
  1. Tap profile or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
  2. Tap the reel or photo you want to manage, then tap more in the bottom right.
  3. From here you can:
    • Tap Turn off reuse, then tap Turn off to confirm. No one will be able to create new reels, posts or stories with this video or photo, but existing reels, posts or stories using your content won’t be affected unless you delete your video or photo.
    • Tap Allow reuse, then tap Allow to confirm. Anyone will be able to create new reels, posts or stories using all or part of this video or photo.
