Can I use music in my videos on Instagram?
We want to encourage musical expression on Instagram, while making sure we uphold our agreements with music rights holders. These agreements protect artists, songwriters and other music rights holders by setting limitations around the amount of recorded music that can be included in Live broadcasts or videos.
Please keep the following general guidelines in mind when using music in your live videos:
- There are no limits on using music in Stories, or traditional musical performances (example: filming a live artist or band performing their own music).
- The more full-length recorded tracks in your video, the more likely the video may be limited (example: muted or blocked).
- Shorter clips of music are recommended.
- There should always be a visual component to your video; recorded audio should not be the primary purpose of the video.
If we detect that your live video broadcast includes music in a way that doesn’t adhere to our music licensing agreements, you may receive a notification from us while filming. This notification is intended to alert you so you can make changes to your stream and avoid interruptions. If your video is muted or blocked, we’ll make clear what actions you can take to stop the interruption. These actions may include an option to dispute a rights holder’s claim if you believe it was made in error.
