Terms of Location-Based Services
These terms govern the location-based services provided by Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and the other products, features, apps, services, technologies and software we offer (Meta Products or Products).
  1. Location-Based Services
    We can use your location information to provide you with personalized content and information, allow you to let people know where you’ve been and where you are now, provide measurement, analytics and other business services, promote safety and security, research and innovate for social good, and to improve our Products. Based on the Products you use, the location-based service we provide may include:
    • Services that show content based on your location, and other application services based on such services (including suggesting or filling out search keyword based on your location, showing/providing ads, posts, content, and other information based on your location)
    • Services that show locations or routes, or allow you to find locations based on your current location, and other application services based on such services (including sharing, sending, posting, or storing your location)
    • Services that allow you to link status updates, photos, videos, and other posts to your location (for example, by checking into a specific location), and share, send or recommend it to other users, or post or categorize it on your Facebook page, and other application services based on such services
    • Services that detect nearby businesses, places or objects and may allow you to interact with such businesses, places or objects, and other application services based on such services
    • Services that allow you to set notifications, messages, and other content alerts based on specific locations, and other application services based on such services.
  2. Fees for Location-Based Services
    We do not charge users for location-based services, but data charges may be incurred when you are using location-based services.
  3. Your Rights
    We collect, use and share your location information pursuant to our Privacy Policy. You can control whether your device shares precise location information with Meta Products via Location Services, a setting on your mobile device. When Location Services are turned off, we may infer your location using things like check-ins, events and IP address.
    You always control who sees your posts, including posts with specific or general location information, through the settings offered by the Meta Product you are using.For further information regarding sharing where you are and how you can control your location information on Facebook see here and on Instagram here.     We will only provide your location information to third parties with your consent or as permitted pursuant to the Act on the Protection and Use of Location Information (Location Information Act) or other applicable laws. You can ask us to provide you with the basis for, and content of, the location information provided to third parties. You can also ask us to correct any errors in your location information.
  4. Minors
    If you are under the age of 14 years, please do not attempt to register for Meta Products or provide personal information about yourself to us. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under the age of 14 years, we will delete that information as quickly as possible.
  5. Grounds for, and Retention Period of Data Confirming the Usage of Location-Based Information.
    We automatically record and store data verifying the use of location-based information pursuant to Article 16(2) of the Location Information Act and retain the data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
    We will retain personal information in connection with your account to help us deliver personalized Facebook experiences. While you maintain a Facebook account, you may review and/or remove your posts on Facebook (including any location information included in your posts) and the places you have been through your Activity Log at any time.     If you want to stop using your account you may deactivate it or delete it. When you deactivate an account, no user will be able to see it, but it will not be deleted. We save your profile information in case you later decide to reactivate your account. When you delete your account from a Meta Product, it is permanently deleted from the relevant Product, and the personal information is securely destroyed by technical means that renders it unusable. When you remove information from your profile or delete your account, copies of that information may remain viewable elsewhere to the extent it has been shared with others, it was otherwise distributed pursuant to your privacy settings, or it was copied or stored by other users.
  6. Compensation for Damages
    The Location Information Act applies to disputes related to location information to the extent required by law. However, for all other claims or disputes, the Meta Terms of Service, Instagram Terms of Use, or relevant Meta Product terms apply.
