When Instagram accounts don't show up in search
If an account repeatedly posts content that goes against our Recommendation Guidelines, we may make the account and content it posts harder to find in places like Search and Explore, rather than removing it from Instagram.
In order to find some accounts using Search, you may need to enter the account’s exact username to find the account. After searching for an account, you may also need to tap Accounts below the search bar to find the exact account you’re looking for.
We’ve previously limited content like this in Explore, Search, Reels, Accounts You Might Follow and Recommendations. However, you and others can now choose to see more or less content and accounts that could be upsetting or offensive using the Sensitive Content Control.
Sometimes, you may not be able to find an account in Search because the account has been compromised and the username was changed.
If you think your username was changed as a result of your account being compromised:
  • Check if you've received an email from Instagram notifying you that your account information was changed.
  • Ask a friend to visit your profile and take a screenshot of your current username and profile.
