If you are under 18, you may not see the option to allow sensitive content in Explore.
If content goes against our
Recommendation Guidelines, it may be considered upsetting, offensive, or sensitive and we may limit it from Explore, rather than removing it from Instagram. We’ve previously limited content like this in Explore, but you can also choose to see more or less content that could be upsetting or offensive in Explore using the
Sensitive Content Control.
The Sensitive Content Control applies to some content that goes against our Recommendation Guidelines, but does not apply to content that goes against our
Community Guidelines. Our Community Guidelines define what is and isn’t allowed on Instagram. These guidelines help us keep Instagram an authentic and safe place. If we're made aware of a post that goes against our Community Guidelines, we'll remove it from Instagram.
The Sensitive Content Control is automatically set to the default (Limit), which is the same level of potentially upsetting or offensive content we’ve previously limited in Explore. You can change this setting at any time to see more or less of this type of content.
To change your Sensitive Content Control:
Tap

or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
Tap

in the top right, then tap
Settings.
- Tap Account, then tap Sensitive Content Control.
- Tap
next to Limit Even More to see less content you may find upsetting. Tap
next to Allow to turn the sensitive content limit off. Note: This option may not be available to people under 18. - Tap OK to confirm.
Keep in mind that when you choose to allow Sensitive Content, you’ll see more photos and videos that you may find sensitive in Explore.
Note: If you don’t see the Sensitive Content Control in Settings, try updating your app to the latest version.
We're constantly making improvements to ensure you have more control over the content you see on Instagram. However, the Sensitive Content Control does not apply to content that violates our
Community Guidelines.
Keep in mind that if you see a post you think goes against our
Community Guidelines, you can
report it to us so we can take a closer look. If a post goes against our Community Guidelines, we'll remove it from Instagram.
What types of content does Instagram consider sensitive?
There are some categories of content that are allowed on our platforms because they don’t go against our
Community Guidelines, but may not be eligible for recommendations. You can change the Sensitive Content Control setting at any time to see more or less of this type of content.
Content that impedes our ability to foster a safe community, such as:
- Content that may depict violence, such as people fighting. (We remove graphically violent content.)
- Content that may be sexually explicit or suggestive, such as pictures of people in see-through clothing. (We remove content that contains adult nudity or sexual activity.)
- Content that promotes the use of certain regulated products, such as tobacco or vaping products, adult products and services, or pharmaceutical drugs. (We remove content that attempts to sell or trade most regulated goods.)
- Content that may promote or depict cosmetic procedures.
- Content that may be attempting to sell products or services based on health-related claims, such as promoting a supplement to help a person lose weight.
