Birthdays on Instagram
You must be at least 13 years old to have an Instagram account in most countries. If you discover an account that belongs to someone under the age of 13 years old, please report it. We ask for birthday information to help ensure that underage people aren’t using Instagram. This includes everyone, whether the Instagram account represents you personally, or if the account was created for something else (example: accounts dedicated to a pet, hobby, or brand).
This information also helps us provide age-appropriate and safer experiences for the youngest members of the Instagram community. For example, we won’t display alcohol-related ads to people who are under the legal age limit in their country.
If you’ve connected your Facebook account and you want to update your birthday, you can edit it on Facebook to change it on Instagram. If you haven’t connected your Facebook account, you can add or edit your birthday directly on your Instagram profile.
To add or edit your birthday on your Instagram app for Android and iPhone:
- Go to your profile.
- Tap Edit Profile.
- Tap Personal Information.
- Tap Birthday and enter your date of birth or tap Update on Facebook.
Once you create a new Instagram account, you can find your birthday from your profile. Keep in mind, your birthday won’t be visible to others on Instagram.
To find your birthday on your Instagram profile:
- Tap or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
- Tap Edit Profile.
- Tap Personal Information Settings to view your birthday.
- Click your profile picture in the top right corner, then click Profile.
- Tap Edit Profile to view your birthday.
If you’ve linked your Facebook and Instagram accounts, we’ll update your Instagram account with information from your Facebook profile including your birthday. For example, if you forget your Instagram password, you can log in with Facebook to recover your Instagram account. If you haven’t linked your accounts, you can still add your birthday to your Instagram account.
You can learn more about how your information is collected and shared in our Data Policy.
