Boost an Instagram story
If you're based in or intend to target audiences in the US and want to create an ad campaign that relates to credit, employment, housing, social issues or political ads, you must choose the category that best describes your ads from the Special Ad Category dropdown menu.
You can boost active Instagram Stories that have been featured in your highlights or archived to turn them into ads that help your brand reach new audiences. You can also learn how to boost an Instagram feed post or boost an Instagram Reel.
Before you begin
  • Some creative elements are not available for ads that run in Stories, including branded content ads.
  • You can use up to five of the following interactive elements: location sticker, hashtag sticker, polling sticker, tappable text and @mention sticker for the creator or the business partner's profile. Or you can use one countdown sticker.
  • Avoid using emojis, GIFs, music stickers, link stickers and more complex creative tools.
  • To link to a website in your Stories ad on Instagram, you can add a call-to-action. Instagram Stories ads support a default call-to-action link sticker, placed at the bottom of your ad. CTA link stickers can only be added to Instagram Stories that do not already include an existing link sticker. To best optimize ad creative for CTA link stickers in Instagram Stories ads, we recommend updating ad creative to follow ad specification guidance for Instagram Stories by January 2023.
Boost an Instagram story
To boost an active Instagram story:
  1. Go to your profile.
  2. Tap your profile picture to access your story.
  3. At the bottom of the story's image or video, tap Boost.
  4. Select Boost from the options.
  5. Fill in the details of your ad by setting things like Audience (who you want to reach), Budget (how much you want to spend) and Duration (how long you want your ad to run). Tap Next (iOS) or (Android) once you've completed these details.
  6. To complete your ad, tap Create ad.
You'll receive a notification in your Activity Feed after you submit an ad for review, when it's getting reviewed, if it's approved or disapproved and when the campaign ends.
Stories that are boosted will run for as long as you set the duration for. The active story on your profile will expire after 24 hours, however the boost story will still run as an ad. You can also use the boost button for archived and highlighted stories.
