What is Accounts Center on Instagram, and how is my information used across my accounts?

Accounts Center is being tested and may change in the future. It isn’t available to everyone at this time and is only available on Android and iPhone apps.

Your Accounts Center is a place where you can manage connected experiences across your Instagram and Facebook accounts.

What does it mean to enable connected experiences across my accounts added to Accounts Center?

Setting up Accounts Center adds one Instagram and one Facebook account to your Accounts Center. Once your Instagram account and Facebook account are added to your Accounts Center, you enable and can manage connected experiences, including:

  • Sharing your story or posts from Instagram to Facebook.
  • More easily logging in across your Instagram and Facebook accounts. For example, when you download Instagram on a new device and you’re already logged into Facebook, you can use Facebook to log into Instagram. You can also choose to maintain separate login information for your Instagram and Facebook accounts.
  • Syncing your name and profile photo across Facebook and Instagram. This means that:
    • When you first sync your name, your name on Facebook will become your name on Instagram.
    • People will be able to see and search for you with this name on both Facebook and Instagram.
    • Syncing your name on Facebook with your name on Instagram (example: Jane Smith) won’t change your Instagram username (example: jsmith).
    • When you sync your profile photo, you can choose to use either your Facebook or Instagram profile photo across your accounts. The default photo will be the photo you most recently updated. To sync your profile photos, you also have to sync your name.
    • After the first time you’ve synced your name, when you change your name on Facebook or Instagram, your name will change on both accounts.
  • Using Facebook Pay across Facebook and Instagram. You’ll be able to:
    • Use payment, delivery and contact information across your accounts. For example, you can buy something on Instagram using your Facebook Pay information from Facebook, so you don’t have to set up separate payment information on Instagram.
    • View your payment history across both accounts in one place.

Learn more about Facebook Pay in the Facebook Help Center and the Instagram Help Center.

Keep in mind, Facebook Pay is being tested and isn’t available to everyone who has access to Accounts Center.

How is information used across my accounts when they're added to Accounts Center?

Setting up Accounts Center adds one Instagram and one Facebook account to your Accounts Center. Once your Instagram and Facebook accounts are added to your Accounts Center, we’ll use information across those accounts to provide a more personalized experience on Instagram and Facebook for you and others, like making better suggestions for accounts you may want to follow on Instagram or people you may want to connect with on Facebook.

Note: Per our Data Policy, we still use information across your accounts even if they haven’t been added to Accounts Center or if you remove your accounts from Accounts Center. Learn more about how we may use your information in the How is my information used across my accounts on the Facebook products? section below.

What does it mean if I don’t enable connected experiences by setting up Accounts Center?

If you don’t enable connected experiences by setting up Accounts Center, or if you choose to remove your accounts from Accounts Center, you won’t be able to:

  • Share your Instagram story or posts to Facebook. Keep in mind:
    • Any Instagram posts that were already shared to Facebook will still be visible on Facebook.
    • If you’ve shared your Instagram story to Facebook, it will still be visible on Facebook until its 24-hour period of time is complete. Learn more about how to delete photos or videos from your story on Facebook in the Facebook Help Center.
  • Log in across accounts. This means that:
    • You’ll no longer be able to use Facebook to log into Instagram or Instagram to log into Facebook. If you created your Instagram account using your Facebook account and you decide to remove your accounts from Accounts Center, you’ll be prompted to create a password for Instagram.
    • We won’t log you out of any sessions or devices. To review and log out of any sessions, you can visit your Instagram settings or Facebook settings.
  • Sync your name and profile photo across Facebook and Instagram. Keep in mind, if you remove an account with a synced name or profile photo from Accounts Center or you disable syncing your profile information, your name and photo will stay the same on Facebook and Instagram until you change them. Any future changes you make to your name or profile photo will only apply to the account you’re updating.
    • Learn how to update your name and profile photo on Instagram and your name and profile photo on Facebook.
    • Keep in mind, syncing your name on Facebook with your name on Instagram (example: Jane Smith) won’t change your Instagram username (example: jsmith).
  • Use Facebook Pay across Facebook and Instagram. You won’t be able to:
    • Use payment, delivery and contact information across your connected accounts without having to enter it into both Instagram and Facebook.
    • View your payment history across your accounts.

Keep in mind, Facebook Pay is being tested and isn’t available to everyone who has access to Accounts Center.

Note: If you choose to remove an account from the Accounts Center, we will record that the account was previously added to keep you and others safe and to help us understand how people use our products.
