Temporarily limit people from interacting with you on Instagram
If you feel like you’re being bullied or harassed, you can temporarily limit interactions from certain groups of people on Instagram without them knowing.
You can choose to limit interactions from:
  • Everyone but close friends (accounts not on your Close Friends list)
  • Recent followers (accounts that have started following you in the last week)
Note: If you select Everyone but Close Friends, you will not be able to select the other two groups since this is the most restrictive setting.
When you limit these accounts, their new chats and comments on your content will be hidden and they won’t be able to reply to your stories, tag or mention you or remix your content.
You can limit interactions from people for up to four weeks at a time and can extend the time for as long as you’d like. Only new chat threads with the accounts you limit will be hidden. You’ll still see chat threads that were created before you turned this on.
Keep in mind that when you choose to temporarily limit interactions from Recent followers, anyone who follows you during the time period you’ve selected will automatically be limited.
When you limit interactions:
  • Accounts you choose to limit can still comment on your posts and reels but their comments will be hidden unless you approve them.
  • Any new chat threads these accounts create with you will be moved to the “Hidden requests” folder in “Message requests”.
  • You can choose to ignore or review these comments and messages. Learn more about how to view limited comments and messages.
  • Comments made by limited accounts will remain hidden after you turn off this tool.
  • When you turn off this tool comments from these accounts will be visible on your posts unless you restrict or block them.
  • When limited accounts try to tag or mention you or remix your content they will see a general message that you don’t let everyone do this.
  • Limited accounts will not see an option to reply to your stories.
You can also restrict, block or hide comments from individual accounts or filter out comments that contain specific words, phrases, numbers or emojis.
