What does the the video preload setting do?
As you swipe through your feed, you'll notice that videos start playing right away. This happens because Instagram loads videos in advance so they're ready when you get to them.
Preloading makes videos start playing more quickly but uses more data. If you want to control your data usage, you can choose whether videos always preload or if they only preload when you're connected to Wi-Fi. If you select preload on Wi-Fi only, it may take longer for videos to load when you're not connected to a Wi-Fi network. To adjust this setting:
- Go to your profile by tapping in the lower-right corner
- Tap (Android) or (iPhone) in the upper-right corner
- Swipe down and tap Preload
- Select Always or Only on Wi-Fi
